PPC Campaigns
Pay Per Click Campaigns can be a beneficial marketing strategy for a variety of reasons. A couple of the most popular PPC Campaign programs are Google Adwords, and Overture. Whenever someone clicks on a link in the sponsored listings section there's a base charge of 5 cents on google, and 10 cents on overture(yahoo). The bid prices on each ad can be raised however high your willing to go to get above your competition. You must always monitor these campaigns to make sure your in the right position for the optimum profit margin.
I usually set a rule for myself when using PPC campaigns to never get into a bidding war. Bidding wars can ruin a keyword for both you and your competitors by raising the price of the word too high to turn around a profit. If you get into a situation such as this the best thing you can do is just settle with second or third place. Remember that no one keyword is a jackpot, it takes a lot of time, patience, and research to figure out what campaign strategy is best for your site.
Explore other avenues to market your site besides google and overture. Smaller PPC programs such as findwhat.com can be just as lucrative for your company. No one PPC program out there is right for everyone. However, no matter who you decide to go with make sure to always set a cap on your campaign, I've had a bad experience in the past where I forgot to do this and ended up paying big time 12 hours later, oops.
Overall, PPC programs demand a lot of time and research. Remember to spread your budget out among a few different campaign programs, in other words, don't put all of your eggs in one basket.
