Step One
We first have to get the proper color, and levels, you can do this manually or by the following:Image > Adjust > Auto Color
Image > Adjust > Auto Levels
Step Two
Go to the layers pallet and drag the image to the icon left of the trash can(create new layer). Right click on the layer you just created and click on select layer transparency.This will keep the blur effect we're about to apply from going outside the image.
Now we're going to do the following to create a softer effect:
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Use a gaussian blur of 5, once this is done go to the layers pallet and drop down the layer options
menu, select multiply. After this is done go back to the original layer below the one we were just
working on and adjust the brightness until the desired effect is reached:
Image > Adjust > Brightness/Contrast
